Usually a transfer code is enough, but with some domain extensions additional documentation is also needed.

How long does a domain transfer take?

A domain transfer can take anywhere from 5 to 7 days to complete, depending on the current registrar's cooperation and the specific TLD's transfer policies. The process involves several steps, including approval by the current registrar and verification by the new registrar, to ensure the transfer is authorized and secure.

What is domain transfer?

Domain transfer refers to the process of moving a domain name from one registrar to another. This procedure is often undertaken to benefit from better services, pricing, or features offered by another registrar. It involves unlocking the domain, obtaining an authorization code, and initiating the transfer at the new registrar, ensuring the domain's continuous operation without affecting the existing website or email services.

Can I transfer my domain at any time?

Domains can be transferred at any time, provided they are unlocked and not subject to any registrar lock or hold due to recent registration, renewal, or previous transfer. ICANN regulations also require that a domain must be at least 60 days old before it can be transferred from the initial registration or any previous transfer.

Will my website or email service be affected during the transfer?

Your website and email services should not be affected during the transfer process if it's handled correctly. It's important to ensure that your domain's DNS settings remain unchanged during the transfer. We recommend coordinating with both the current and new registrars to ensure a smooth transition.

What is an authorization code, and why do I need it?

An authorization code (or EPP code) is a security measure used to prevent unauthorized domain transfers. It's a unique code provided by your current registrar that you'll need to initiate the transfer process. This code ensures that only the domain owner or someone with explicit permission can transfer the domain.

What happens if my domain transfer fails?

If a domain transfer fails, the process can usually be reinitiated after addressing the reason for the failure. Common reasons include incorrect authorization code, domain lock at the current registrar, or failure to approve the transfer request. Fees paid for a failed transfer are typically refunded or can be applied to a subsequent transfer attempt.

Are there any fees associated with domain transfer?

Yes, there is typically a fee associated with transferring a domain, which often includes an extension of the domain's registration period by one year from the current expiration date. The specific fee can vary depending on the domain's TLD. This fee is payable to the new registrar and covers the transfer process and the additional registration year.

How do I initiate a domain transfer to your platform?

To initiate a domain transfer to our platform, you'll need to first unlock the domain at your current registrar and obtain an authorization code (also known as an EPP code or transfer key). Then, you can start the transfer process on our website by entering the domain name and the authorization code, following the instructions provided to complete the transfer.

Can all domains be transferred?

Most domains can be transferred between registrars, but there are exceptions. Certain country code top-level domains (ccTLDs) have specific restrictions or requirements for transfer. Additionally, domains that are newly registered or recently transferred may be subject to the 60-day lock period mandated by ICANN.

How can I ensure a smooth domain transfer process?

To ensure a smooth domain transfer process, verify that your domain is unlocked, obtain the correct authorization code, and confirm that there are no pending payments or disputes with your current registrar. Additionally, ensure the domain's contact information is up-to-date, as confirmation emails will be sent to the domain's registered email address during the transfer process.
