What is the Pre-Registration Period?
The Pre-Registration Period allows individuals and businesses to submit requests for new gTLD domain names before the official launch phases, such as Sunrise or Landrush.
How does Pre-Registration work?
During this phase, interested parties can submit their desired domain names to a registrar. The registrar then attempts to secure the domain name on behalf of the applicant when the domain becomes available.
Is Pre-Registration a guarantee of securing a domain?
No, Pre-Registration does not guarantee ownership of a domain. If multiple parties pre-register the same domain, it may be subject to additional phases like Sunrise priority or an auction process.
Who can participate in the Pre-Registration Period?
Anyone can participate, including individuals, businesses, and organizations, regardless of trademark ownership or TMCH validation.
What are the benefits of Pre-Registration?
Pre-Registration increases the chances of securing a desired domain by submitting your request early, especially for high-demand names.
Are there additional costs for Pre-Registration?
Some registrars may charge a non-refundable fee for Pre-Registration services, while others include it in the domain registration cost if successful.
What happens if the domain I pre-registered is already taken?
If the domain is claimed by a trademark holder during Sunrise or someone else secures it in a later phase, your Pre-Registration request will not be successful. In most cases, any upfront fees paid may not be refunded.
Can I pre-register multiple domains at once?
Yes, most registrars allow applicants to pre-register multiple domains. Each request is treated separately and may require individual fees.
When does Pre-Registration end?
Pre-Registration ends just before the official launch phases (e.g., Sunrise or Landrush), at which point registrars attempt to secure the requested domains.
What happens after the Pre-Registration Period?
After Pre-Registration, domains enter phases like Sunrise or Landrush, where trademark holders and the public can officially secure the domains. If your pre-registered domain is not successful, you can still attempt to register it during these phases.
